Senate Backs Apology for Slavery
I would like to say that I have gone through all my receipts and tax records and I have yet to find one that showed where I bought or bartered for a slave, FYI. I asked my father and he said that he never owned a slave (although I’d argue I was one as a child which he disputed) and he confirmed that my Grandfather never owned a slave nor did my Great Grandfather, in fact I can’t find anyone from the 1800’s forward in my family that owned a slave… BUT, BUT I can find a lot of relatives that fought in the Civil War – I can find quite a few that were killed in the Civil War and they never owned a slave, some fought for the north and other for the south. So where’s my apology for the untimely deaths of so many of my relatives that died to free slaves they never owned?
Point being I’m not trying make light of slavery, but the facts are I am unaware of any slaves today nor do I know any slave owners and for that matter nor anyone I know that is aware of anyone that was either a slave or owner, so this would lead me to believe there aren’t any left around. But lets say for a minute that my Great, Great, Great Grandfather had about a 100 slaves and then the Civil War came along and he lost them all… well according to the 14th Amendment he is not entitled to compensation for the loss thereof, even though he legally owned them and illegally lost them without compensation where was his apology for that, hell where is my apology, I wasn’t there don’t I deserve one too?
I’ve explained this before, I DO NOT SUFFER FROM WHITE GUILT… nor do I consider myself a racist, do I have racist thoughts from time to time? Sure I do just as everyone does and anyone that says they do not is lying or fooling themselves. So all these black folks out there that say blacks can’t be racist, stop lying as I know you can.
But here is the deal and short of the long of it…
I’ve lost direct relative in the Civil War, I consider that an apology.
I’ve lost jobs to affirmative action, I consider that an apology.
I’ve pay tons of taxes for some minorities to collect checks for nothing, I consider that an apology.
I’ve listen to political correctness until I sick, I consider that an apology.
I’ve listen to black hate with no laws to protect me from it, I consider that an apology.
I’ve listen to whining by blacks about whites with no merit to there whines, I consider that an apology.
and the list goes on and on…
BUT wait it gets better listen to Carol M. Swain Ph. D…
Even among proponents of a congressional apology, reaction to yesterday’s vote was mixed. Carol M. Swain, a [black] professor of political science and law at Vanderbilt University who had pushed for the Bush administration to issue an apology, called the Democratic-controlled Senate’s resolution “meaningless” since the party and federal government are led by a black president and black voters are closely aligned with the Democratic party.
“The Republican Party needed to do it,” Swain said. “It would have shed that racist scab on the party.”
EXCUSE ME?? What the F— did you just say? Let me education the professor by quoting a fellow blogger that sums up what I was going to say, from Alexa Shrugged (That would be the chick-a-fied version of Atlas Shrugged) … ” it is actually quite fitting that the Democrat-controlled government made the apology – it was after all the REPUBLICAN party that freed the slaves! Remember that guy, Abe Lincoln? He was our first REPUBLICAN president.
Or perhaps she is thinking more of the Civil Rights area. Oh, but wait, Martin Luther King, Jr. was a REPUBLICAN! REPUBLICANS voted overwhelmingly for the Civil Rights Act – higher as a percentage than the Democrats and it was powerful Democrats in Congress who opposed it. Later, it was REPUBLICAN President Richard Nixon who started affirmative action.”
If you’d like to educate her too here’s her e-mail addy carol.swain@vanderbilt.edu
Yet for some ignorant-ass-reason many blacks and other minorities, the poor and the so-called oppressed flock to the Democrat party when the democrats have done NOTHING to help them out of there plight and you know why? Because the democrats want you poor, they want you downtrodden, they want you oppressed, because those that are beaten down are easy to control. The “war on poverty” is over 40 years old and we’re no closer to winning it than the day it started. Doubt it, have a look at all those thriving democrat led cities (there are none), have a look at those democrat led states and tell me it’s not perfectly fitting the Democrat are the ones apologizing. Hell, look no further than the White House and tell me we Republicans don’t deserve an apology.
Back to the original point if a apology makes you feel better great, but don’t expect one from me and you’d better damn not think of reparations and trust me you don’t want to go there with me.
As with all congressional apologies — but especially this one — concerns about liability for restitution were part of the political calculations, in this case because of the long-running debate about whether the descendants of slaves should be compensated.
Charles Ogletree, the Harvard law professor who has championed restitution, was consulted on the Senate’s resolution and supports it, but he said it is not a substitute for reparations. “That battle will be prolonged,” he said.
Reparations… show me one living slave (hell show me one living person that knew a slave personally) and we’ll talk, otherwise shut up. People who never owned slaves apologize to people who were never slaves… makes my head spin it’s ridiculous.
